The Name Game

Found this little bit of fun over at OMG We're Pregnant! and wanted to pass it on.

Here is the lowdown on this Name Game: Names are important. Your kids’ names were chosen for a particular reason and they mean a lot to you so this would be a great story to share! If you don’t share your kids’ names on your blog you can just tell us where you got the catchy nickname for your little ones or just go through 1-10 and amuse us with your naming antics! No problemo! Copy the image above to use on your blog. Go ahead and answer the questions and then pass this Name Game and the simple instructions on to other bloggy moms or dads who you think might want to share their story!

1. Do you have any cultural or religious naming traditions?

Not really. Kris' family is Filipino and starting as far up as his dad (I don't know beyond that) they use parent's names and or maiden names as middle names. Like his dad's middle name is his grandpa's name, and his mom's middle name as well as my husband's middle name is his mom's maiden name. My family doesn't do anything like this but I personally always liked the idea of using my husbands name as our son's middle name and I plan to use my grandma's middle name for our daughter. Boy that got long.

2. Did you or your partner come to the marriage with pre-selected names?

I did. I knew I liked the name Aiden. And before we got engaged we talked baby names and decided on some, including Aiden as our only boy choice since he too liked it. So we had names selected before we got married, but only I had names picked prior to that.

3. Did you consider the sound of the first and middle and last names together? Did this make any sad eliminations?

Yes of course. I wanted it to "flow". I don't like names that don't flow right.

4. Do you have veto powers?

Yes, we both had veto powers. He used some veto power when we talked about girls names, but we found out it was boy early on so then we didn't have any issues.

5. Did the baby naming cause arguments?

Nope! Not this time anyway - I think naming our second will be much harder. We have no other boy names picked out and i'm iffy on girl names cuz I like soo many.

6. Do you think it is easier to name boys or girls?

Boys. For us this time anyway. We had one boy option already picked and loved it! Now as far as next time I KNOW boys will be harder because we have girl options already and NOTHING we like for boys.

7. Did you eliminate names because of people from your past or present who you don’t like or because a certain image comes to mind.

No, but there wasn't much talk this time around. We certainly would if need be though.

8. Did you / would you survey your children to get their thoughts on the name?

Haven't thought about that, perhaps, depends on how old they are.

9. Did you tell people the name or possible names before the baby was born or were they “in the vault”?

We told people as soon as we knew the sex. People were surprised we had a name picked already and we got a few people saying "oh that will change" but it hasn't and we love it now more and more after referring to the baby as "Aiden" this entire time.

10. Did you use baby name books?

Nope.

11. What did you name your kid(s) and why?

Aiden Kristoffer. Aiden was just a name I liked, I know it's getting popular now, but I really like it. And Kristoffer is my hubs name. It's not Christopher it's Kristoffer like Kris Kristofferson. I love the way the whole name sounds. :)

I LOVE the name Aiden.
My hubs and I already have a boys name picked, but have not agreed on a girls name, so hopefully we have a boy first! :) I do not know any Aidens, but I know it has become more popular in recent years!
