I miss my sewing machine

Let me tell you, I'm sorry for the lack of posts.  I don't think anyone has even noticed, except for my mother of course.  This first trimester is really kicking my butt.  I'm always exhausted.  Even now I am laying in bed resting and yawning while Aiden naps.

I haven't really been sick, only gotten sick on 2 different occasions.  That's a big difference from when I was pregnant with Aiden.  My face has broken out like crazy though.  I had some acne with Aiden but this baby is sure stealing my beauty like the old wives tales suggest with a girl.

As soon as I get up in the am we watch Oso while I try to get food in me asap so I don't get dizzy.  Then when Aiden goes down for a nap instead of sewing like usual I tend to nap too.  I just have no energy to sew or do anything productive.  I did manage to cut some fabric for my Kaleidoscope QAL but I haven't sewn anything.  In the evening I crash almost immediately after Aiden does.  Coffee isn't tasting good anymore, so that doesn't even help.

Anyway, all this to say I'm sorry.  There is no new sewing updates this week, but hopefully after this first trimester passes I will be back in the full swing of things.

Ive been inspired!

Today I went to my local fabric store and they had a big outdoor sale going on.  Score.  I stumbled on 2 different panels of Dick and Jane fabric that I just HAD to have.  I had no idea what I was going to use it for, but it was just calling my name.

Fast forward and I'm googling trying to find some inspiration.... and here it is!  All thanks to....

Chasing Cottons

I fell in love with the way she used them and the bright primary colors.  I get a "fabric allowance" in the next couple months so I think this will move up on my to-do list.  Can't wait to go find some fun prints to coordinate with this.

Fabric Tuesday: Singer Party

I hosted a Singer sewing party this weekend, it was through Houseparty, and was a blast.  I was supposed to do these little roll up bags, like for makeup brushes, but that wasn't something that I found practical for myself or my guests, so we made dishtowels, which will be much more useful!

I had little gift bags for everyone with patterns, threads, a little sewing pouch, a couple towels and fabric and coupons good for Martha Stewart craft supplies and Joanne's.

The little sewing machine setup area.

Here I was playing "instructor" and showing some of the features of the machine.  I showed off some of the stiches, explained how to use the self threader on the machine, the drop in bobbin feature and all of the wonderful feet and accesories the machine came with.

I taught everyone how to make ruffles and how to make yo yo's - which everyone thought was easy and LOVED.
Tiffany {above} and Kathi {below} in action making their towels.

Tiffany's completed towel.  She used not only the ruffle but the yo yo too!

This was my quick little sample towel.  Everyone had fun being crafty, we spent 3 hours sewing and chatting.  We also all enjoyed some of my mom's homemade angel food cake and fresh strawberry sauce.  Yum!  What a neat little girls day, and a perfect way to spend time on a Saturday.

Sharing at Fabric Tuesday @ Quiltstory

Legal stuff:  Houseparty and Singer supplied me with a sample sewing machine for the party and a free box of goodies from Joanne's and Singer to share with my guests.  My opnions are my own and I will be purchasing the machine because I loved it soo very much!

What I've been working on....

Just a few projects I've been working on this week.

A baby blanket for my friend Mallory -

And a spring quilt, my first large quilt attempt.  Here is a teaser of some of the blocks I've got, just need to sew them.  I will be adding a nice wide boarder to it as well.  You'll be sure to get the full scoop when it's completed.  Can't wait to show it off!  The fabric is Central Park by Kate Spain.

What I've been working on

This week I started a new spring quilt.  It's with Central Park by Kate Spain for Moda.  Oh how I love it.  It's soo bright and cheery, really makes the sun come out!  I have a general layout in mind, I will finish up the 3rd square outline, then want to add a thin yellow brick border and then a thicker orange pattern border.  Not sure which fabric to use for the back yet.  It will be bound in simple white though.  Here is what I have going on and my inspiration for the 2 boarder idea.

Recent Projects

I've been a sewing fool lately.  It's been really relaxing and it's soo nice to see a project completed.  I still need to quilt Aiden's Dr. Seuss quilt but otherwise the bedroom set is complete.  I'll be keeping it a surprise for now though.  Here are a few other things I have completed, all within the last few days too!

First up is reversible luggage tag handles.  Mom and I are taking a trip soon and will use these then!

My Dad's table runner....

A scrap pin cushion for myself!  These scraps are from my mom's table runner....

 Which is this right here....

 The back of it.

Lastly I made myself a little zipper pouch.  It is big enough to hold my ereader, but I also was considering using it, or making another, to put tampons in to keep in my purse.

Laptop Case

My mom wanted a laptop case, and we are taking a trip soon.  What better time to get it done.  It took me less than an hour to measure, cut and stitch this baby up.  I just used 2 coordinating fabrics I had in my stash and regular batting.  Nothing to fancy, and I sort of made it up as I went along.  It sure did turn out nice for a quick project!

Recent Sewing Projects

I have been busy sewing up several Christmas gifts lately.  Here are a couple pictures to share.  They were all quick simple day projects, but anything to keep me busy.

I made a few dolly blankets for my mom's friend who is giving them to her grand-daughter.

And for my friend Tiffany I made a set of kitchen towels.  Her kitchen is bright oranges and yellows and I thought these fabrics would be perfect.  I actually squealed in the craft store when I saw them!  There was a blueberry fabric too, but I didn't like it.  It looked too dark.
